I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1st Baron Tennyson) (6 August, 1809 – 6 October, 1892) was the Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom after William Wordsworth and is one of the most popular English poets in literature.

Quotes

Where Claribel low-lieth
The breezes pause and die...
  • Where Claribel low-lieth
    The breezes pause and die,
    Letting the rose-leaves fall
    :
    But the solemn oak-tree sigheth,
    Thick-leaved, ambrosial,
    With an ancient melody
    Of an inward agony,
    Where Claribel low-lieth.
    • "Claribel" (1830)
  • He often lying broad awake, and yet
    Remaining from the body, and apart
    In intellect and power and will, hath heard
    Time flowing in the middle of the night,
    And all things creeping to a day of doom.
