"Our best destiny, as planetary cohabitants, is the development of what has been called "species consciousness" — something over and above nationalisms, blocs, religions, ethnicities. During this week of incredulous misery, I have been trying to apply such a consciousness, and such a sensibility. Thinking of the victims, the perpetrators, and the near future, I felt species grief, then species shame, then species fear." — Martin Amis

Simple: The best way for people to live together on Earth is to start something that has been called "species consciousness" (thinking all the time about what it means to be human). Species consciousness is higher than belonging to one country, group, religion or culture. During this week when people are very sad and when we almost cannot believe what happened, I have been trying to use species consciousness. When I thought of the people who were hurt, the people who hurt others, and the things that may happen soon in the future, I felt part of the sadness, shame, and fear that our species feels.
