King William III

William III (1650–1702) was king of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1689 until his death in 1702. He was also the Stadtholder (ruler) of the Dutch Republic and a nephew of Charles II. As a Protestant, he was invited to invade England to replace the Catholic James II. James's eldest daughter, Mary, was married to William, and they were declared joint king and queen as William III and Mary II.
