Hello Griffinofwales, I am new to editing Wikipedia and Wikiquote. I did not mean to "vandalise" a page but how do you report or correct ABUSE? Thanks AliG789 (talk) 01:22, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, first I undo/revert the edit, and then I warn the user. If the user does not stop vandalizing, I request that the user be blocked at WQ:VIP. Griffinofwales (talk) 01:37, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Griffinofwales, I understand the procedure about how you correct a vandalised page. My question is how do I REPORT or CORRECT a page if it is wrong and abusive? For example if a quote is totally false (doers not really exist) or the evaluation of the quote is misleading and a deliberate lie what is the procedure to report the abuser and correct the page? Thanks AliG789 (talk) 01:56, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If a quote is obviously false (i.e. very disparaging and has no sources to back it up), I would recommend simply removing it, without comment. If, on the other hand, a quote just looks suspicious (but not obvious vandalism), and has no sources, I'd suggest leaving a note at Wikiquote:Simple talk for the opinions of other editors. One way to find out whether a quote is real or not is to look it up on Google. Hope this helped, Tempodivalse 02:27, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tempodivalse, thank you for your answer. So can I remove the page http://simple.wikiquote.org/wiki/Victor_Hugo ? Because I searched for that quote on Google and it appears on 5 pages, one being WikiQuotes. One other page is an Armenian site and all of the remaining 3 web pages are talking about that Armenian page. So in short there is really only ONE reference which is biased. Actually Wikiquotes scare me now because one can easily create reality by creating a few web pages and putting the false, made-up quotes on them! And then that would be enough to get on WikiQuotes. The other thing that is PATENTLY WRONG with the http://simple.wikiquote.org/wiki/Victor_Hugo page is because the writing on that page claims V.Hugo said those words regarding alleged Armenian genocide (dated 1915) but V.Hugo DIED 30 YEARS BEFORE THAT DATE! That is the reason I changed that page because it is patently wrong but got a warning that my action was vandalism. I want to remove that page totally but I also want to REPORT AND COMPLAIN ABAOUT THE PERSON WHO CREATED THIS DELIBERATE AND OBVIOUS LIE on Wikiquotes. So my question is can I remove the page totally and how do I complain about the person who put obvious lies on Wikiquotes? Thanks AliG789 (talk) 02:57, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am currently investigating, and will get back to you. Griffinofwales (talk) 03:20, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a new quote and removed the earlier one as it is a hoax. Pmlineditor  Talk 16:18, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
