Welcome

Welcome to Simple English Wikiquote!!! I'm very happy to see the work you're doing here. Coppertwig 17:16, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm happy to see that that there is at least one Simple English editor working here. I'm MC, or PC, by the way. 220.255.4.135 09:16, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea, having a selected quote. I changed the tab at the top of talk pages to say "new part". Before, it said "+". On English Wikipedia, it says "new section". You might want to change it on Simple English Wikipedia, too. Coppertwig 21:19, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I asked here for a steward to make you an administrator. Coppertwig 23:21, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are now an administrator

Congratulations, you have been made an administrator of Simple Wikiquote. Please ask for help if you need it. Best wishes. ++Lar: t/c 01:49, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations!! Coppertwig 02:14, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to you both. First objective: create some MediaWiki gadgets. Thanks — American Eagle (talk) 02:17, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats. Cheers, Razorflame 04:03, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archer7

I'm thinking maybe it would be a good idea to desysop Archer7. Archer7 was not here for a long time. Cromwellt is still (sometimes) active on English Wikipedia; I don't want to desysop Cromwellt now. What do you think? Coppertwig 02:36, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You could. I've seen him on a bit on Simple Wikipedia (and Simple Wikipedia IRC), so he is alive. But with him not being here for a 1.5 years, I say give the "userption" message. ("Unless you come back and post something on this page...") — American Eagle (talk) 02:43, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note: If he ever does start editing here again after he has been desysoped, he can always request it. No harm done. -- RyanCross (talk) 02:46, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, you're right. Archer7 is active on Simple English Wikipedia. OK, I'll give him a message. Coppertwig 02:51, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats

Congratulations on the successful RfA. Wield the mop wisely. :) --TBC 04:14, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks — American Eagle (talk) 20:06, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HotCat

Hmmm. I don't think it's working right now. SwirlBoy39 19:59, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. I had moved it to MediaWiki:Gadget-Hotcat.js. — American Eagle (talk) 20:06, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Wanna join ##SB39 on Freenode please? Nothing wiki related. I just want someone to talk to :) SwirlBoy39 20:25, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I can't. Got to go. — American Eagle (talk) 20:45, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can you now? SwirlBoy39 23:22, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, it's not working. :( — American Eagle (talk) 23:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Have you tried Mibbit instead. ;) Oh, and sorry to hear your retiring. At least your still edit sometimes. :) -- RyanCross (talk) 23:33, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<-- Isn't working there either :( I want to get this project off the ground ;) — American Eagle (talk) 23:34, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, great! It'll be in space in no time. I was wondering, do you think I would make a good administrator here? I'm not sure if I'll even consider becoming an admin here at Simple Wikiquote. What do you think American Eagle? Thanks! -- RyanCross (talk) 23:39, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you would. It's not that hard here, with Coppertwig being really nice and no other active admins to argue with, it's not very cloudy. :) — American Eagle (talk) 23:45, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The opposite of this place's RfA is the English Wikipedia. XD Well, from what you said, I'll run soon. I don't know exactly when, but very soon. But before then, I'll do my best to get this place to space. :) Thanks American Eagle. Your always so kind. :D -- RyanCross (talk) 23:48, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<-- By the way, I don't think WQ:A should be redirect to Wikiquote:Administrators. People might be confused with "Wikiquote:Attribution" when it's created. It's that way at Wikipedia, but it's your choice. :) Just my two cents. ;) Cheers! -- RyanCross (talk) 23:54, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We don't have a "Wikiquote:Attribution" — American Eagle (talk) 23:55, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, not yet. ;) But it's your choice. What do you think? -- RyanCross (talk) 23:56, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Administrators, for sure. I've never used "Attribution" in my life. A-for-Admin is common. — American Eagle (talk) 23:58, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks. For now, I guess we'll stick to WQ:A. Oh, I'm about to send you email. Cheers, RyanCross (talk) 00:09, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All the best!

I hope you enjoy the things you're doing with your time. I hope you'll still come and edit here sometimes. I wish you all the best! Coppertwig 21:00, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

American Eagle, what does the lastdiff gadget do? I mean, when or where would I see the link that it gives? Thanks. Coppertwig 20:28, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are tabs at the top of a page, for example, on this page: "user page | talk | change this page | new part | etc." and the gadget puts a "-" to the very right of all tabs. The "-" links to the most recent change of the current page, it's better then go through the page history and "comparing selected versions." I've always found the link useful for quick-checking a page and reverting vandalism (helps with quick-Rollback). Hope this helps! — AE (talk) 20:36, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank you! Now I see it! Hmm ... maybe now I'll learn Javascript so I can put up more tabs like that (second-last diff, etc.) Coppertwig 20:40, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nice Mediawiki translations. Coppertwig 21:02, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) It's mostly "New > Recent" and "Edit < Change" - I bit simpler. Have fun with Javascript. ;) — AE (talk) 21:06, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

For helping to resurrect activity on Simple WQ by contributing constructively to pages that need it the most. Congrats on your recent RfA, as well. --TBC 22:49, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm surprised you haven't gotten one yet. :) --TBC 22:49, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dating

How come you removed the access date from the template script? It's necessary, especially when dealing with websites, to cite a date. Content constantly changes on websites (-hint- Wikipedia? -hint-) so to know when a website has been accessed is vital for reference. --Gwib -(talk)- 00:53, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, first of all, we don't have the date pages. I tried to link to SE:WP dates with it, but I don't know how to work the code. If you can link it right, go ahead and revert my removal (with new code). — AE (talk) 01:08, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give it a go, but probably will end up having less success than you did :P. --Gwib -(talk)- 01:18, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, not a clue. --Gwib -(talk)- 01:23, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Change admin image

Heh, your up pretty early. :) I was wondering, if you look at {{User wikiquote/Administrator}}, the image is the Wikipedia admin mop, but since this is Wikiquote, not Wikipedia, I was thinking of replacing it with Image:Admin Puzzle Icon.png. What do you think? -- RyanCross (talk) 07:50, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fine with me. Your call. — AE (talk) 07:52, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, for the record, there's something wrong with the {{BD}} template... -- RyanCross (talk) 08:06, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can't you see Recent Changes? I'm working on it, it's probably the most complex template here. Wait... — AE (talk) 08:08, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I did notice you were working on it, but I just thought you should see what it looked like on articles. :) I hope you fix it soon! I should get some sleep. Good night, American Eagle. -- RyanCross (talk) 08:10, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
YESSS!!! I did it. Hours gone. It really is the most complex template we have. Just look at the code. I combined several template into one. Tell if any problems. I must now also go to bed (I just finished TLotR #3 !!!). Good-night. — AE (talk) 08:21, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats, the amount is code is staggering... {}8{{{|9}}w:death{}}}{{}{}{}}. --Gwib -(talk)- 12:37, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, looks like you got it! One step closer to making our wiki take off! :D Thank you very much American Eagle, and nice job! -- RyanCross (talk) 02:23, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. About the template, in case you're wanted to read more. :) — AE (talk) 02:55, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for nominating me; thanks for putting in the request at the Stewards noticeboard; and thanks for asking a second time there! Ah, TLotR: a very good book! Coppertwig 12:36, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I was thinking we needed one, and them I thought I should nominate myself. I knew I could do the job, but then I thought of you. You've been here forever, you granted my adminship (sort of), you're been kind, I'd only been here for a while and you forever. You deserved it much more, so I nominated you. I trust you and know you won't abuse the flag. By the way, I watched The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King last night. But I'm sure the book's even better. IMO, The Two Towers was best in the film series. But they were all pretty sweet. Cheers — AE (talk) 02:55, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RyanCross' RfA thanks

American Eagle/Archive 1, I would like to thank you for nominating me in my requests for adminship. It was successful having Coppertwig closing my RfA with 8 Supports, and 0 Opposes as the total outcome, and I am now a Wikiquote administrator. I must say, I am very happy and satisfied to help the Wikiquote community in a brand new way, and that I know the community trusts me with the administrative tools. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. Knowing the the overall community trusts me is very heartfelt, and knowing that the community believes I will do well, is very, very good feeling. When I first arrived at Simple English Wikiquote, I saw that the wiki was still growing, so I decided to start contributing to a nice wiki like Simple English Wikiquote. I worked on a lot of wikifying, copyediting, article creation, simplifying quotes, and much more things that I believe have helped improve the quality of the Simple English Wikiquote for all of the readers who come to learn. Every edit we make makes a difference, and making that difference has improved the knowledge of numerous people in our world, which makes editing all the fun. I did my best to work on articles and some general maintenance around here, and I soon realized that more administrators were needed in the most part, so I decided to try to become an administrator here when American Eagle (you), kindly offered to nominate me for adminship. I was thoroughly surprised how my RfA went, and I am very thankful that I can partake the duties as an administrator, and I will do my very best to help the Simple English Wikiquote community. Please, if you have any comments or complaints about my actions as an administrator, leave a note on my talk page, and I will respond as swiftly as I possibly can. If you need help from an administrator like me, be my guest! You know where to ask (*wink, wink*). ;) I'm sure I could be of assistance. I would love to help you! :)

Many thanks,
RyanCross (talk) 03:24, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Welcome

Thanks for the welcome! I'm not sure I will really contribute here much, I don't have a habit of remembering quotes. But I might poke my nose in from time to time :) Kennedy 17:53, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can also help translate quotes into Simple English. See Category:Pages needing translation. And there are other things you can do. You can also copy pages you like from English Wikiquote to here. Anyway, welcome. Coppertwig 02:27, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources/references

See Coppertwig's comment here. Generally, as with EN Wikiquote, we shouldn't include a references section. Instead, sources should be listed under their respected quotes. Nor should we link to Thinkexist and Brainyquote, which aren't reliable as sources (since they don't provide info on where they get their quotes from). Thanks in advance,--TBC 05:49, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar!

Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

For making this project come alive and for all the good work you've put into it.

Coppertwig 21:12, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, very much! -- American Eagle (talk) 23:38, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot: Every time I give someone a barnstar, I say something with a new word. I was going to say: this barnstar is for the everythingliness of the work you do here. Coppertwig 23:15, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection

Hello, American Eagle. I'm sorry that I've been busy with other things and I haven't done much here in the last few days or weeks.

About some pages you protected: I think these page protections are against consensus and against policy. (I believe we should use the English Wikipedia policy for this if we haven't written a policy here yet.) I think no pages on this project are busy enough to be protected, except maybe the one for cascading protection, which we probably don't need any more. Also, I would like to be able to easily edit the quote of the day pages, and if they're protected it's harder: I would have to discuss and get consensus first. So it makes things harder for me if they're protected. Please tell me what policy or discussion you're using to decide to protect them; or please unprotect them. Thanks. With respect, Coppertwig 21:12, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'll unprotect them all. In a moment. I hope this attracts some vandals! We need some of those... my block tool's getting stale. LOL --American Eagle (talk) 01:52, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that at the same time as giving you the barnstar. I was thinking of giving you a barnstar for many days. A little bit of vandalism is not very bad. It's more important for the project to be inviting to the users. Thanks again. Coppertwig 23:24, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
After going through Special:ProtectedPages, I think all's in order. I think high-risk templates should be semi-protected because they can damage many pages, and the Main Page should be also, and of course those very high-risk pages should be protected. Yes, we should be welcoming and friendly to all new users. -- American Eagle (talk) 23:38, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't. It really depends on what you did on the other wikis. If it was really bad on one wiki, it could affect you on other wikis. – RyanCross (talk) 00:52, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I will base on your conributions here when considering adminship. But you need to stay longer here and gain experience and trust before adminship, even though your editing is phenomenal. -- American Eagle (talk) 00:55, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFB

Hey man,

I'm really sorry I opposed your RfB. I noticed I upset some users, but I felt I did what was right. I hope you don't find it personal. Thank you for nomming me, and I'm sorry if I disappointed you. You are a wonderful person/wiki(pedian|quotian)and have a great heart. We all make mistakes. God bless, SwirlBoy39 23:27, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really mind being opposed, especially if it's for a good reason. May I ask why exactly, though? Thank you. -- American Eagle (talk) 22:48, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IRC

Do you mind joining? I need to speak with you. Thanks! SwirlBoy39 00:24, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you now please? SwirlBoy39 00:31, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
SB, please stop asking. This is a form of canvassing if you repeatedly ask. Just be patient and wait for AE's response. No need to keep asking. RyanCross (talk) 00:34, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ryan, he asked me a few days ago, and I joined. Now he wants to talk again. SB39, sorry, my computer won't let me right now. If it's really important, email it to me, that is working. God bless, American Eagle (talk) 01:19, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup Job

Here's your job: cleanup MediaWiki:Blockedtext. Cheers! SwirlBoy39 00:04, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done by PeterSymonds (talk changes) (see below). -- American Eagle (talkbureaucratship) 03:04, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey American Eagle. SwirlBoy39 requested that I redesign the above page, so I've basically stole the colours from the English Wikipedia and the text from simple.wikipedia (with the appropriate tweaks and GFDL attributions). It can be found here. Unfortunately SwirlBoy simply copied and pasted the simple.wikipedia template without actually changing the links to Wikiquote! So if you could put this one up (or revert back to the old one, whichever suits you) as soon as possible, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks! :) PeterSymonds 01:33, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! :) PeterSymonds 01:43, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Me?

Me? Not humble? Your sarcasm is obviously completely wrong. I was amazingly humble. I mean, I only said about it once... maybe twice... possibly a few more.... :) Thanks. Microchip08 16:34, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh sorry, ;) I didn't go trick-or-treating, my family and I don't. So we stay home, get pizza and watch movies. I watched Kicking & Screaming and Iron Man (though I'm not fully endorsing them). It was a good night. God bless, American Eagle (talkbureaucratship) 22:11, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I had pizza, wen't trick-or-treating, fell asleer for 3 hours, watched The Hulk, fell asleep and this morning I had to get a EKG. That was my day. ✞StaticChristian22:13, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving Administrators page

I'd like to clear off the old stuff from the requests for administrator attention at Wikiquote:Administrators, but I'm not sure where to archive it (or whether to just delete it and not archive it). I think before, we just deleted stuff, but this discussion looks like maybe something to archive somewhere. Or maybe not. Can you suggest what to do? Thanks. Coppertwig(talk) 01:46, 2 November 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Okay, currently, RfA/RfB is archived at Wikiquote:Administrators/Archive1. There is some old stuff from Administrators at Wikiquote:Administrators/Archive 1 (so this is where I'd think to archive it). But do you think it would be good to create a Wikiquote:Administrators' noticeboard (WQ:AN) like Wikipedia has? I think it would be a good idea to have, and would make all this work out better. I could work at it if needed. God bless, American Eagle (talkb'cratship) 02:49, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, I saw that. ;) It would be really hard, seeing as I'm in Michigan and you're in Brazil. ;) In Christ, American Eagle (talkmy RfB) 22:34, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
what? I'm in NY? what made you think that? ✞StaticChristian22:38, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I just thought that sense you entered for Brazil in the 2009 WikiCup on Wikipedia you were Brazilian. But I've never been to New York, though. -- American Eagle (talkmy RfB) 22:57, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Eh, I chose a random coutry. Anyway NY is pretty great. Our pizza is so thin you have to fold it to eat it. ✞StaticChristian23:02, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
just so you know I might upload a picture of myself for no reason. ✞StaticChristian23:09, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK. ✞StaticChristian23:20, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You never commenteted on my photo. Oh, and watch out with those templates. Now I gotta fix the dates to say 2009 not 2008. ✞StaticChristian01:58, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I like your photo very much, I'm glad you uploaded it! And thank you for doing the template work, I didn't notice my mistake until I saw you working on it. Thanks, American Eagle (talkmy RfB) 02:51, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update

You need to update the RfA history section on your user page. ;) – RyanCross (talk) 04:20, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you even read what I had written? 3/4 opposed because of your SEWP actions! How is that "not most"?

Your comments asking for explanation after an explanation has already been given is immature and shows yourself trying to drag out a pointless argument. The fact is that 75% of opposes were due to your actions on SEWP and this caused your failed RfB. Accept it. --Gwib -(talk)- 21:21, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Woah, 75% of the opposes? I only had 3. Do the math (lol). And you said on IRC that your oppose was not because of SEWP, but you may switch it. I don't mind.
I'm not trying to get an "explanation after an explanation has already been given," I never did anything wrong with the whole thing. He was disliked, a few users (four, I believe) wanted him banned, they didn't have consensus other then themselves, though. So when an immature block was made, I undid it. People said not to do that anymore, let him be blocked for the time being, I backed off. A day later, there was about 10 users for one way, and 10 for the other. My unblock proved to be correct and Kennedy's should not have been made.
But, he lost all trust on Simple English Wikipedia. He sent bad emails to several users, and showed that he did not want to be mentored. I support a longer block there, now. When the same users who started the ban on SEWP came here for him, I opposed it. He has done nothing wrong here and shouldn't, under any policy, be blocked.
In all that, what did I do wrong? That was my question, to which I'd like your answer. Thank you, Gwib, I hope you understand. God bless, American Eagle (talkmy RfB) 21:44, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, 75% of the opposes.. I'll do the math here if you want. 3/4 = 0.75. 0.75 x 100 = 75. Happy? Out of the 4 people who opposed you (one struck), 3 opposed due to SEWP actions. End of maths lesson.
I've already answered your questions above, please don't make me repeat myself. Try contributing constructively instead of asking for explanations which have already been typed out meticulously. --Gwib -(talk)- 21:51, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

Hi, I see you're trying to do some template work here? I can help, I did the same thing on simple wikipedia yesterday. סּ Talk 05:05, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I have no clue what I did, now I'm stressed. Well, I know /what/ I did, but I'm trying to fix it. SwirlBoy39 05:07, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Seems like you transwikied some templates, but forgot the meta templates that make most of these other templates work :) סּ Talk 05:08, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Samekh: Haha, yes. I find template work very fun. Except when you don't understand what you are doing, like I did here, here, and some other pages that I can't find, all doing the same template thing. You may try to work on some templates, we could use a lot of useful ones.
SwirlBoy39: I'd say no more transwiking, I don't understand how to fix it either. Perhaps ask on Meta? It really boggles my mind trying to think of how to fix it. -- American Eagle (talk) 05:16, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am good at transwiking, I just did it at the wrong time... SwirlBoy39 05:20, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
